Rupee strengthens against dollar

NEW DELHI: Continuing its winning streak for the third day, rupee appreciated 9 paise to 63.51 against dollar in trade today.

Dollar index, which tracks dollar movement against a basket of major world currencies, inched down to 96.28. Euro was up at 1.10 against the greenback on revived hopes of Greece striking a deal with international creditors.

Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras yesterday told international creditors that Athens could accept the bailout offer, if some conditions were altered. The nation defaulted on $1.7 billion debt repayment to International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Tuesday.

Rupee had appreciated 3 paise to settle at 63.61 against the US currency on Wednesday, thanks to mild selling of dollar by banks and exporters on hopes of foreign capital inflows into equities.
