Rupee steady against dollar in early trade

MUMBAI: The Rupee ruled steady against the dollar in a very small range in morning trade in the absence of any worthwhile factor amid slightly weaker dollar in overseas markets.

In quiet trade at the interbank foreign exchange (forex) market, the Indian unit resumed steady at Rs 44.88/90 per dollar and later moved in a three paise range. It was quoted at Rs 44.87/88 a dollar in late morning deals against the last close of Rs 44.89/90 a dollar.

The Rupee drew some support from weaker dollar overseas but there were no major movements in the absence of any worthwhile dollar buying or selling, forex dealers said.

In overseas markets, weaker-than-expected economic data released on Thursday on US productivity growth and factory orders were virtually ignored by the market ahead of the closely watched non-farm payrolls data for October, which is likely to show a moderate rebound.
