Rupee slips over 5 paise againt dollar in early trade

The local currency opened at 64.06 as against the previous close of 64.08.

The rupee was trading 6 paise down at 64.14 against dollar in early trade on Wednesday on account of buying in American currency by banks and importers.

Meanwhile, benchmark equity index NSE Nifty opened on a flat note at 10,531 on Wednesday, down 0.45 points against its previous close. On the other hand, BSE Sensex opened 76.71 points, or 0.23 per cent, up at 34,087.32.


Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) sold shares worth a net Rs 44.07 crore on Tuesday, as per provisional data released by the stock exchanges.

Government bonds fell at the start of a holiday-truncated week on Tuesday, as investors awaited clarity on the Centre's fiscal consolidation roadmap.

The GoI benchmark 6.79 per cent 2027 bond yield rose to 7.28 per cent from 7.27 per cent in the previous session.
