Rupee opens 8 paise lower against US dollar at 65.09

The local currency on Wednesday settled 49 paise up at 65.01 against dollar.

NEW DELHI: The rupee on Thursday opened 8 paise down at 65.09 against the US dollar on account of buying of American currency by banks and importers.

The local currency on Wednesday settled 49 paise up at 65.01 against dollar.

Meanwhile, domestic equity markets opened in green following mixed global cues. The BSE Sensex opened 54.14 points, or 0.17 per cent, up at 31725.85, while NSE Nify index opened 12.10 points, or 0.12 per cent, up at 9,927.

Foreign portfolio investors stood net sellers in domestic equity markets on Wednesday and sold shares worth Rs 520.71 crore with gross purchases and gross sales of Rs 5,873.13
crore and Rs 6,393.84 crore, respectively.

Government bonds tumbled, with the benchmark note ending at a near five-month low, after the Monetary Policy Committee left key interest rates unchanged on Wednesday.

The GoI benchmark 6.79% 2027 bond yield rose to 6.70 per cent October 4 from 6.65 per cent in the previous session.
