NEW DELHI: The rupee on Monday opened 7 paise up at 64.36 against dollar on account of selling of American currency by banks and exporters.

The rupee on Friday closed higher by 10 paise at 64.43 against the US dollar, taking cues from encouraging export numbers for May.

Meanwhile, domestic equity markets opened in green following positive Asian cues. The 30-share BSE Sensex opened 112.58 points, or 0.36 per cent, up at 31,168.98, while Nifty 50 index opened 38.35 points, or 0.40 per cent, up at 9,626.40.

Asian stocks were trading higher as markets geared up ahead of Brexit negotiations between the UK and the European Union, and as French President Emmanuel Macron’s party won a parliamentary majority at the weekend.

Foreign portfolio investors stood net sellers in domestic equity markets on Friday and sold shares worth Rs 610.20 crore with gross purchases and gross sales of Rs 5,018.68 crore and Rs 5,628.88 crore, respectively.

Government bonds fell for a second day on Friday, as investors sold debt to benefit from price gains early last week. The GoI benchmark 6.79% 2027 bond yield rose to 6.49 per cent from 6.48 per cent in the previous session.
