NEW DELHI: The rupee on Tuesday opened 5 paise down at 64.05 against dollar on account of buying of American currency by banks and importers.

The local currency on Monday settled 3 paise down at 64.05 against dollar.

Angel Commodities in a research report said, “USDINR spot is expected to weaken tracking losses in Asian market currencies following tensions surrounding over Korean Peninsula.”

Foreign portfolio investors stood net sellers in domestic equity markets on Monday and sold shares worth Rs 745.45 crore with gross purchases and gross sales of Rs 3193.04 crore and Rs 3938.49 crore, respectively.

Meanwhile, domestic equity markets opened flat following mixed global cues. The BSE Sensex opened 53 points, or 0.17 per cent, up at 31755, while NSE Nifty index opened 20.40 points, or 0.21 per cent, up at 9,933.

Government bonds fell on Monday, as heightened geopolitical tensions post North Korea testing a hydrogen bomb hurt the appetite for emerging market assets.

The GoI benchmark 6.79% 2027 bond yield increased to 6.50 per cent from 6.48 per cent in the previous session.
