NEW DELHI: The rupee opened 13 paise down at 64.66 against dollar on Friday on account of selling of American currency by banks and exporters.

The local currency on Thursday closed 23 paise down to a two-week low of 64.53 per dollar after the US Federal Reserve hiked interest rates and maintained a hawkish tone going forward.

Angel Broking believes USDINR spot is likely to depreciate further in Friday’s trading session.

Meanwhile, domestic equity markets opened in green following mixed global cues. The 30-share BSE Sensex opened 84.74 points, or 0.27 per cent, up at 31,160.47, while NSE Nifty opened 17.40 points, or 0.18 per cent, up at 9,595.45.

Foreign portfolio investors bought shares worth Rs 86.11 crore in domestic equity markets on Friday with gross purchases and gross sales of Rs 6819.81 crore and Rs 6733.70 crore, respectively.

Government bonds fell for the first time in three days on Thursday, as investors booked profit from recent gains, after a Federal Reserve rate hike on expected lines.

The GoI benchmark 6.79% 2027 bond yield rose to 6.48 per cent from 6.47 per cent in the previous session.
