Rupee opens 12 paise higher against US dollar

NEW DELHI: The rupee on Friday opened 12 paise higher at 67.86 against the US currency.

The domestic unit on Thursday ended 10 paise higher at 67.98 against the greenback on sustained selling of the American currency by exporters and local banks.

Forex market sentiment swung back in favour of the domestic currency after the initial wave of volatility post RBI’s June meeting minutes.

On the global front, oil prices rose by more than 1 per cent in early Asian trading on Friday, pushed up by uncertainty over whether Opec would manage to agree on a production increase at a meeting in Vienna later in the day, Reuters reported.

The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (Opec) is meeting together with some non-Opec members including top producer Russia at its headquarters in the Austrian capital to discuss output policy.

Asian stocks fell, extending the worst week for regional equities since late March, amid concern global trade restrictions will curb growth, Bloomberg reported.
