Rupee holds steady at Rs 49.32/33 vs dollar

The rupee held steady at Rs 49.32/33 per US dollar due to uneven demand and supply transactions in view of uncertainty in the currency market.

MUMBAI: The Indian rupee held steady at Rs 49.32/33 per US dollar in early trade today due to uneven demand and supply transactions in view of uncertainty in the currency market.

The rupee resumed higher at Rs 49.28/29 per dollar on the Interbank Foreign Exchange, as against its previous close of Rs 49.32/33 per dollar, and hovered in a range between Rs 49.28 and Rs 49.47 per dollar before quoting at Rs 49.32/33 dollar at 1030 hours.

Uneven demand and supply of dollars from banks and corporates mainly affected the market sentiment, a forex dealer said.

In the Sydney market, the euro fell during early trade after the Slovak Parliament rejected a plan to expand Europe's bailout funds, the latest frustration in attempts to resolve the region's debt crisis.

Meanwhile, the BSE benchmark Sensex shot up by 183 points, or 1.11 per cent, in early trade today.
