Rupee depreciates by 17 paise against dollar in early trade

The rupee depreciated by 17 paise to 45.10 a dollar in early trade on Thursday on fund outflows and the US currency's gains overseas.

MUMBAI: The rupee depreciated by 17 paise to 45.10 a dollar in early trade on Thursday on fund outflows and the US currency's gains overseas.

The rupee had ended lower by 32 paise at 44.93\94 a dollar in the previous session.

Forex dealers said capital outflows and dollar's strength against other Asian currencies weighed on the rupee sentiment.

The US dollar strengthened in the overseas market as investors shifted funds from risky assets to forex in light of a deepening crisis in Europe over Greece's sovereign debt.

Meanwhile, the Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark index, Sensex, fell by 88.43 points, or 0.51 per cent to 16,999.43 points in opening trade today.
