There could be change of strategy in Mistry camp: JN Gupta, Former ED, SEBI

In a chat with ET Now, JN Gupta, Former ED, SEBI, says Mistry not attending Tata Sons board meet would mean a stormy session can be avoided

Mr Cyrus Mistry will not be attending the Tata Sons board meeting today, how do you read this scenario?

See first of all it is very difficult for me to comment on this because we do not really whether he is attending or not and we do not know what are the reasons he is not attending but since you are asking my opinion, I will say it is surprising. Till now, he had been making it very clear that it is a mission that he is fighting.

So I do not know why he is not attending today’s board meeting. Of course, he won’t be chairing the meeting as he already has been removed from the post. It was expected to be a stormy meeting but that would not be the case if doesn’t attend the meeting at all.

Similarly, in TCS, we will have to wait and watch what happens but that means there could be some strategy revision at Mr Mistry’s camp.

As much as we love to discuss Tata Sons and the ongoing spat between the Shapoorji Pallonji Group and the Tatas, do you think this could very well be just a routine board meet to take cognisance of operational efficiencies within the Tata Group companies?

I really do not know because I am not privy to agenda and when you very well know that the agenda items can be introduced at the last moment by the chairman or any member. So since no side is showing their cards, you really do not know what is going to be discussed in the board meeting. Any agenda item can be brought. So it would be very, very difficult for us to say anything.
