Wheat, rice rises on retailers' demand

The wholesale prices of wheat and rice basmati common rose in the range of Rs 25 to Rs 150 per quintal on stockists and retailers buying in the national capital.

NEW DELHI: The wholesale prices of wheat and rice basmati common rose in the range of Rs 25 to Rs 150 per quintal on stockists and retailers buying in the national capital on Saturday.

Wheat MP (deshi) variety rose by Rs 25 to Rs 1425-1650 per quintal on restricted arrival from Madhya Pradesh due to heavy rains amid fresh demand from rolling flour mills.

Wheat dara (for mills) gained Rs 10 at Rs 1090-1140 per quintal on better off-take by rolling flour mills.

In the rice section, basmati common variety rose to Rs 6900-7100 from the last level of Rs 6750-6950 per quintal.
Traders said fresh buying by retailers and rolling flour mills against restricted supply mainly pushed up wheat and rice basmati prices.

They said roller flour mills buying wheat on fears of further rise in rice prices boosted the uptrend.
