NEW DELHI: Wheat prices rose by 0.80 per cent to Rs 1,517 per quintal today as speculators enlarged positions on expectations of a rise in export and domestic demand.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, wheat for delivery in October moved up by Rs 12, or 0.80 per cent, to Rs 1,517 per quintal, with an open interest of 12,850 lots.

The wheat for delivery in September gained Rs 7, or 0.47 per cent, to Rs 1,495 per quintal, with an open interest of 23,350 lots.

Marketmen attributed the rise in sugar futures prices to speculations that export demand may rise as a recent rally in global prices boosted demand for the grain.
