Wheat falls by Rs 25 per quintal on increased supplies
Wheat prices moved down up to Rs 25 per quintal in the national capital on Saturday following increased supplies against reduced offtake.
Wheat MP (deshi) fell by Rs 25 to Rs 1,300-1,575 per quintal, while wheat dara (for mills) shed Rs 10 at Rs 1,045-1,120 per quintal. Atta chakki (delivery) and roller flour mills, in line with weak trend in wheat, drifted by Rs 20 and Rs 10 at Rs 1,060-1,075 and Rs 1,080-1,085 per 90 kg bag.
Traders said government's decision to release an additional two lakh tonnes of wheat per month from October to December for distribution to APL categories, a move aimed to check prices of the foodgrain during the festival season, led to a fall in wheat prices.
Other grains such as bajra fell by Rs 25 to Rs 735-755 per quintal, while jowar yellow and white traded lower by the same margin at Rs 800-830 and Rs 1,275-1,340 per quintal respectively.
Traders said adequate stocks following incresed arrivals against sluggish demand mainly attributed to fall in wheat and other commodity prices.
