Wheat, barley prices remain down on increased supplies

NEW DELHI: Wheat and barley prices continued to slide on the wholesale grains market on Friday on increased supplies from producing regions against reduced offtake.

Marketmen said increased supplies from producing regions against reduced offtake by flour mills mainly kept pressure on wheat prices.

Reduced offtake by consuming industries against adequate stocks position helped barley to surrendered further ground, they said.

In the national capital, wheat dara (for mills) and wheat deshi fell further by Rs 20 each to Rs 1,440-1,445 and Rs 2,000-2,200 per quintal respectively. Atta chakki delivery followed suit and traded lower by similar margin to Rs 1,445-1,450 per 90 kg.

Barley also declined by Rs 20 to Rs 1,340-1,360 per quintal.
