Vietnam pulls pepper down
Pepper June contract slipped by 2.5% at Rs 15,536 per quintal as against the previous close of Rs 15,929 per quintal.
MUMBAI: Pepper and jeera were down on NCDEX on Tuesday. Pepper June contract slipped by 2.5% at Rs 15,536 per quintal as against the previous close of Rs 15,929 per quintal.
The drop in pepper futures is because of low prices in Vietnam. The prices in Vietnam were quoted below $4,000 per tonne. Pepper registered a volume of Rs 692 crore at NCDEX.
Jeera June contract closed down 1.5% at Rs 12,524 per quintal because of lack of physical demand. Jeera registered a turnover of Rs 457 crore. A total turnover of Rs 2,832 crore was registered on NCDEX with active trades in pepper, jeera, guar seed, rape mustard seed, chana and soya oil.
Chana saw volumes of Rs 261 crore at NCDEX and June contract closed marginally down at Rs 2,326 per quintal. Guar seed traded Rs 374.7 crore and the June contract closed down 0.8 % at Rs 1,763 per quintal. Red chilli futures traded Rs 87 crore and the June contract closed 0.6% up at Rs 5,001 per quintal as against the previous close at Rs 4,976 per quintal.
MCX grossed first session turnover of Rs 2,819.87 crore, up 12.12% over turnover in the comparable session of the previous day. Among domestic futures, MCX bullion contracts clocked a turnover of Rs 1,167.98 crore.
In the base metals segment, copper contracts turnover was Rs 524.42 crore with volume of 15,505,000 kg. Copper contracts were steady with the June contract closing at Rs 336.95 per kg. Turnover across all zinc contracts was Rs 538.99 crore. Nickel May contract ended down 0.44% at Rs 2145.50 per kg.
In the energy segment, crude oil contracts clocked a turnover of Rs 211.09 crore. May contract rose the highest at Rs 2,522 per barrel.
