Turmeric rises over 2% in futures trade

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, turmeric for delivery in June surged by Rs 122 to Rs 5,966 per quintal with an open interest of 20,755 lots.

NEW DELHI: Turmeric prices surged over 2 per cent to Rs 5,966 per quintal in futures trading on Wednesday as speculators enlarged their positions amid covering-up of short positions.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, turmeric for delivery in June surged by Rs 122, or 2.09 per cent to Rs 5,966 per quintal with an open interest of 20,755 lots.

Similarly, the spice for delivery in July moved up by Rs 104, or 1.75 per cent, to Rs 6,040 per quintal in 15,610 lots.

Analysts said covering-up of short positions helped turmeric to trade higher at futures trade but subdued spot demand, limited the gains.
