Turmeric, jeera prices rise as demand picks up

Turmeric and jeera prices rose by Rs 100 per quintal in the national capital today largely on the back of a pick-up in demand.

NEW DELHI: Turmeric and jeera prices rose by Rs 100 per quintal in the national capital today largely on the back of a pick-up in demand from local parties as well as overseas enquiries.

Firming trend in futures market also supported the uptrend in select spice prices.

Turmeric prices rose by Rs 100 to settle at Rs 7,600-13,500 per quintal.

Jeera common and jeera best quality also rose by Rs 100 each to conclude at Rs 12,800-13,300 and Rs 16,500-17,000 per quintal, respectively on fresh overseas enquiries.

Traders said buying support from retailers and exporters against fall in supplies from producing belts, mainly pushed up turmeric and jeera prices on the wholesale kirana market here.

The following are today's quotations per quintal: Ajwain 10,500-17,000, black pepper (per kg) 350-470, betel-nut (kg) 180-200, cardamom brown-Jhundiwali (kg) 950-1,000 and cardamom brown-Kanchicut (kg) 1,000-1,100.

Cardamom small (kg): Chitridar 690-810, cardamom (colour robin) 670-800, cardamom bold 700-750, cardamom extra (bold) 860-1,000 and cloves (kg) 625-750.
