Turmeric, jeera prices rise as demand picks up

Turmeric and jeera prices rose by Rs 100 per quintal in the Delhi largely on the back of a pick-up in domestic as well as export demand.

NEW DELHI: Turmeric and jeera prices rose by Rs 100 per quintal in the national capital today largely on the back of a pick-up in domestic as well as export demand.

Besides, a firming trend in futures market also supported the uptrend in select spice prices.

Turmeric prices rose by Rs 100 to settle at Rs 6,200-10,000 per quintal.

Jeera common and jeera best quality also rose by Rs 100 each to conclude at Rs 13,100-13,300 and Rs 16,400-17,100 per quintal, respectively on fresh overseas enquiries and less supplies in the domestic market.

Traders said buying support from retailers and exporters against fall in supplies from producing belts, mainly pushed up turmeric and jeera prices on the wholesale kirana market here.

The following are today's quotations: Ajwain 10,000-15,000, black pepper (per kg) 420-550, betel-nut (kg) 180-200, cardamom brown-Jhundiwali (kg) 800-900 and cardamom brown-Kanchicut (kg) 950-1,050.

Cardamom small (kg): Chitridar 750-890, cardamom (colour robin) 740-880, cardamom bold 750-840, cardamom extra (bold) 940-1,070 and cloves (kg) 600-750.
