NEW DELHI: Turmeric prices rose by Rs 82 to Rs 6,508 per quintal in futures trading today mostly on the back of a firming trend in the spot market on pick-up in domestic demand amid hopes of lower output.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, turmeric for delivery in May rose by Rs 82, or 1.28 per cent, to Rs 6,508 per quintal in open interest of 8,310 lots.

Similarly, the spice for delivery in April edged up by Rs 72, or 1.14 per cent, to Rs 6,394 per quintal in a business turnover of 27,305 lots.

Market experts attributed the rise in turmeric futures to pick-up in demand in the spot markets and expectations of a lower output.
