Tea prices lower at Coimbatore auction

Tea prices maintained a lower trend, despite improved demand.

COIMBATORE: Tea prices maintained a lower trend, despite improved demand, at the auctions held here last week, industry source said on Tuesday.

Selected well made Nilgiri Orthodox Leaf ruled firm, while other grades quoted lower by Rs 2-Rs 3 per kg.

With improved demand from all sections, good liquoring CTC leaf teas were firm to occasionally dearer by Rs 1, especially smaller broken and fannings, while medium plainer bolder grades met with improved export demand and were dearer by Rs 2-Rs 3, the source said.

Of the total offerings of 4.67 lakh kg , Dust variety comprised of 3.20 lakh kg, the source added.

In the Dust category, Orthodox teas received less enquiry and were sold barely steady, the high priced liquoring CTC ruled lower by Rs 2 -Rs 3 and medium types by a rupee.

Orthodox High Grown Brokens quoted at Rs 65-Rs 76, good CTC brokens Rs 52-Rs 59, Fannings Rs 53-Rs 58, Medium Brokens Rs 48-Rs 55 and Fannings Rs 50-Rs 54 per kg.

Best CTC Dust ruled at Rs 60-Rs 65, Good Rs 53-Rs 59, Medium Rs 47-Rs 52 and Medium Orthodox at Rs 34-Rs 46.
