Sugar spurts on heavy demand

Sugar prices spurted at the Vashi wholesale market here today due to heavy demand from stockist and retailers on the back of higher millers offtake.

MUMBAI: Sugar prices spurted at the Vashi wholesale market here today due to heavy demand from stockist and retailers on the back of higher millers offtake.

Medium Sugar (M-30) shot up by Rs 40/10 per quintal to Rs 3,042/3,191 from Wednesday's closing level of Rs 3,002/3,181.

Small Sugar (S-30) climbed by Rs 10/11 per quintal to Rs 2,952/3,002 from Rs 2,942/2,991 yesterday.

The following are today's closing rates for sugar (per quintal) with the previous rates given in brackets:

Small sugar (S-30) quality: Rs 2,952/3,002 (Rs 2,942/2,991).

Medium sugar (M-30) quality: Rs 3,042/3,191 (Rs 3,002/3,181).
