Sugar rises on fresh buying

Sugar prices rose by Rs 75 per quintal in the national capital today on fresh buying by stockists against restricted arrivals from mills.

NEW DELHI: Sugar prices rose by Rs 75 per quintal in the national capital today on fresh buying by stockists against restricted arrivals from mills.

Marketmen said, fresh buying by stockists and retailers against limited arrivals from mills mainly pushed up the wholesale sugar prices.

Increased offtake by softdrink and icecream makers to meet seasonal demand supported the uptrend, they said.

Sugar ready medium and second grade prices rose by Rs 75 each to Rs 3,050-3,175 and Rs 3,040-3,165 per quintal.

Mill delivery medium and second trade too traded higher by the same margin at Rs 2,850-3,050 and Rs 2,825-3,025 per quintal.

Following are today's rates in Rs per quintal: Sugar ready M-30 3,050-3,175 and S-30 3,040-3,165. Mill delivery M-30 2,850-3,050 and S-30 2,825-3,025. Sugar mill gate prices (excluding duty): Kinonni 3,000, Asmoli 3,000, Mawana 2,900, Titabi 2,885, Thanabhavan 2,875, Budhana 2,860 and Dorala 2,900.
