NEW DELHI: Sugar prices firmed up to Rs 40 per quintal on the wholesale sugar market today on fresh buying by stockists.

Marketmen said fresh buying from stockists on speculation of likely hike in excise duty mainly led to rise in sugar prices.

Sugar ready medium and second grade prices rose by Rs 40 each to Rs 3300-3450 and Rs 3280-3430 per quintal, respectively.

In the millgate section, Dorala and Mawana were ended higher at Rs 3290 and Rs 3310 against last close of Rs 3,260 and Rs 3,285 per quintal, respectively.
