Sugar prices climb further on brisk buying

Wholesale sugar prices remained in the firm grips for the third straight day and registered handsome gains up to Rs 50 a quintal in the national capital on Wednesday largely due to heavy buying by stockist amid restricted supply from mills.

NEW DELHI : Wholesale sugar prices remained in the firm grips for the third straight day and registered handsome gains up to Rs 50 a quintal in the national capital on Wednesday largely due to heavy buying by stockist amid restricted supply from mills.
Marketmen said comparatively lower free-sale sugar quota for current month, triggered by frantic buying by local parties and bulk consumers due to ongoing marriage season, mainly pushed up the sugar prices towards northward.
Sugar ready medium and second grade prices climbed up further to wind up at Rs 1,640-1,730 and Rs 1,630-1,710 from Rs 1,620-1,680 and Rs 1,610-1,665 per quintal, respectively.
Mill delivery medium and second grade price traded higher further at Rs 1,450-1,600 and Rs 1,440-1,590 from Rs 1,410-1,575 and Rs 1,400-1,560 per quintal respectively.
In mill gate section, sugar Bagpat, Daurala, chandpur, titabi and mawana all jumped up in the range of Rs.40 to Rs.50 at Rs.1510, Rs.1560, Rs.1495, Rs.1570 and Rs.1575 per quintal respectively.
Simbhawali, Khatauli, Bijnor and Amroha also registered a handsome gains up to Rs 40 at Rs 1,600, Rs 1,560, Rs 1,510 and Rs 1,500 per quintal respectively.
