Sugar price moves down, wheat up

Prices of wheat moved up, while that of sugar decreased from its previous week's rates in the wholesale food grains market.

CHENNAI: Prices of wheat moved up, while that of sugar decreased from its previous week's rates in the wholesale foodgrains market here during the week ending today.

Opening the week, thoor dal price stood at Rs 7,500, an increase of Rs 100 per quintal over the previous week's close, and maintained the same rate till Tuesday. It declined to Rs 7,400 from Wednesday and ended up with the same rate today.

Sugar declined to Rs 3,700 against its last week's closing rate of Rs 3,750.

On Monday, wheat opened at Rs 2,300 from last week's closing rate of Rs 2,200 and ended today at Rs 2,350 with the gain of Rs 150 per quintal.

Urad dal (Rs 6,000), moong dal (Rs 7,200), gram dal (Rs 6,000), maida (90 kg) (Rs 2,200) and sooji (90 kg) (Rs 2,300) were traded at their previous rates throughout the week.
