Spurt in bullion turnover on MCX

MUMBAI : MCX registered a turnover of Rs 4884.39 in the first session up to 5 pm on Wednesday, up 26% over the same session the previous day. Bullion turnover more than doubled to Rs1,971.05 crore. Gold contracts, including gold mini, lost between Rs 46 and Rs 68. August gold fell 0.76% at Rs 8,853 per 10 gm. Silver contracts, including silver mini, also shed between Rs 189 and Rs 221. September silver fell 1.08% at Rs 17,912 per kg.

In the base metals segment, copper contracts turnover was Rs 904.83 crore, up 44.8% over the previous day’s trading. Turnover of all zinc contracts was Rs 667.51 crore. July zinc contract lost 1.85% at Rs 148.55 per kg. Turnover of all nickel contracts was Rs 350.69 crore.

NCDEX registered a total volume of Rs 1,841 crore (one-way) with active trades in guar seeds, pepper, soya oil, chana, gold and jeera. Trade was sluggish at agri commodities counters and volumes were low.

Guar seed closed up at Rs 1,736 per quintal and clocked a volume of Rs 432 crore. Chana closed up at Rs 2,321 per quintal and clocked a volume of Rs 177 crore. Jeera closed down at Rs 12,509 per quintal and clocked a volume of Rs 134 crore. Pepper also closed down at Rs 14,954 and clocked a volume of Rs 233 crore.

Refined soya oil recovered on Wednesday with the near-month contract closing at Rs 504.35 per 10 kg against the previous day’s close of Rs 503.5. It clocked a volume of Rs 189 crore. Soya bean closed down at Rs 1,632.5 per quintal and clocked a volume of Rs 40 crore. Rape mustard seed closed at Rs 453.8 per 20 kg and clocked a volume of Rs 122 crore.
