KOCHI: India targets to export about 3.8 lakh tonnes of spices valued at Rs 3600 crore during the current financial year as against 3.73 lakh tonnes exported in 2006-07.
"During 2006-07, the country had exported a total of about 373,750 tonnes of spices valued at Rs 3575.75 crore," a Spices Board official told the media.
Spices Board targets to export a whopping about 15,100 tonnes of Mint products including mint oils, menthol and menthol crystals valued at Rs 981.50 crore this year.
Mint formed 30 per cent of the total spice exports and 80 per cent of it came from Uttar Pradesh.
Chillies accounted for 22 per cent of the spices exported and 75 per cent of it being sent from Andhra Pradesh.
About 135,000 tonnes of chillies valued at Rs 675 crore has been targeted for export this year, while about 30,000 tonnes of pepper valued at Rs 450 crore is to be exported during the year.
The official said 2006-07 was a bumper year for spices export. Beating all expectations, the country had exported spices worth USD 793 million during the year, a 34 per cent growth in dollar terms.
