Soyameal exports jump more than three-fold in June

Soyameal exports have jumped over three-fold to reach 2.41 lakh tons during last month, against 64,098 tons in the yera-ago period, according to a latest industry data.


NEW DELHI: Soyameal exports have jumped over three-fold to reach 2.41 lakh tons during last month, against 64,098 tons in the yera-ago period, according to a latest industry data.

"The Export of Soybean Meal during June 2008 was 2,41,518 tons, against 64,098 tons during the same period last year, showing a quantum jump of 276.79 per cent over the last year," Soybean Processors Association of India (SOPA) Coordinator Rajesh Agrawal said in a statement.

Soyameal exports during October 2007 to June 2008 rose by 36 per cent at 43.22 lakh tons, compared to 31.79 lakh tons. The country is estimated to export about 48 lakh tons of soyameal in the current season ending September 2008.

Soyameal exports in the first quarter of current fiscal stood at 10.98 lakh tons, compared to 4.17 lakh tons during the same period last year, registering a growth of 163.03 per cent, the statement said.

During the current financial year Vietnam and Japan are continue to be the niche markets of Indian Soyameal.

Soyameal exports to Vietnam were placed at 2.93 lakh tons, against 2.22 lakh tons last year showing a growth of 31.55 per cent, while shipments to Japan more than doubled at 1.76 lakh tons against 72,500 tons last year.

The data has been collected and compiled by SOPA based on the information received from Members, Port Authorities and other agencies. The data does not include exports to Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh by rail or road.
