Single tea auction system in line with NSE on cards

The Centre is mulling a single national tea auction platform on the lines of the National Stock Exchange (NSE). “We are looking at migrating from 8 tea auction centres to a one auction system.

KOLKATA: The Centre is mulling a single national tea auction platform on the lines of the National Stock Exchange (NSE). “We are looking at migrating from 8 tea auction centres to a one auction system.

Initially, we want to switch to new revised e-auction software for all auction centres across the country,” Union minister of state for commerce Jairam Ramesh said in Kolkata on Tuesday.

Mr Ramesh, who was in the city to inaugurate the hardware of e-auction system, said, “Once the eight auction centres are ready with the localised auction system, the issue of migration to a one-auction intregated system will be taken up by Tea Board.”

At present there are 6 tea auction centres in the country. These are Cochin, Coonor, Coimbatore, Siliguri, Kolkata and Guwahati. Two other auction centres are coming up, at Jorhat and Dibrugarh.
