NEW DELHI: Silver prices were up by Rs 188 to Rs 34,244 per kg in futures trading today as speculators enlarged fresh positions amid a firm global trend.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, silver for delivery in September month rose by Rs 188, or 0.55 per cent to Rs 34,244 per kg in business turnover of 209 lots.

On similar lines, the white metal for delivery in far-month December contracts gained Rs 185, or 0.53 per cent to Rs 34,950 per kg in 117 lots.

Analysts said fresh positions built up by speculators in tandem with a firm global trend as prospects dimmed for an interest rate rise next month by the US Federal Reserve, mainly led to the rise in silver prices at futures trade.

Meanwhile, silver rose 0.34 per cent to USD 14.57 an ounce in Singapore today.
