NEW DELHI: Select spices marched upwards in the wholesale kirana market today on increased buying from stockists against limited arrivals.

Traders said firm demand against restricted arrivals led to a rise in wholesale spice prices. Fresh export enquiries also influenced the trading sentiment to some extent, they said. Black pepper common and turmeric rose by Rs 200 each to Rs 16,600-16,700 and Rs 16,000-16,500 per quintal.

Cardamom small varieties, like colour robin and bold rose by Rs 25 each to Rs 1,250-1,275 and Rs 1,280-1,295, while cardamom brown Jhundiwali and Kanchikut followed suit and traded higher by the same margin at Rs 600-605 and Rs 645-690 per kg.

In line with a general firming trend, cloves edged up by Rs 10 to Rs 280-330 per kg. Following are today's quotations (per quintal): Ajwain 10,500-15,500, black pepper common 16,600-16,700, betelnut (kg) 85-105, cardamom brown -Jhundiwali (kg) 600-605 and cardamom brown -Kanchicut (kg) 645-690.

Cardamom small (kg): Chitridar 1100-1,190, cardamom (colour robin) 1,250-1,275, cardamom bold 1,280-1,295, cardamom extra (bold) 1,325-1,350 and cloves (kg) 280-330.
