Select spices strengthens on restricted arrival

The wholesale kirana market depicted a recovery trend on Wednesday with prices of dhania, kalaunji, nutmeg and jeera rising on restricted arrival amid increased demand.

NEW DELHI: The wholesale kirana market depicted a recovery trend on Wednesday with prices of dhania, kalaunji, nutmeg and jeera rising on restricted arrival amid increased demand.

Dhania prices moved up by Rs 500 to close at Rs 6,000 -8,500 per quintal from 5,500-8,000.

Kalaunji remained in demand on better offtake and finished higher at Rs 8,500-9,000 from previous level of Rs 8,200-8,700 per quintal.

Nutmeg dearer by Rs 10 at Rs 340-350 a kg. Jeera common and dollar also quoted higher by Rs 100 each to close at Rs 9,300-9,600 and Rs 9,500-9,600 per quintal respectively.

Traders said reports of firm trends from producing regions amid tight stocks position helped the prices to improve.

Following are today's quotations (in Rs per quintal): Ajwain 5,000-7,500 Black pepper common 15,800-15,900 Betelnut (kg) 105-115, cardamom brown (Jhundiwali) 15,500-15,600 and cardamom brown (Kanchicut) 17,000-20,000.

Cardamom small (kg): Chitridar 470-560, cardamom (colour robin) 610-625, cardamom bold 630-640, cardamom extra (bold) 655-685 and cloves (kg) 250-300.
