Seafood exports fall 13.5per cent
The seafood exports from the country have registered a 13.47% fall in quantity terms to touch 69,456 tonnes during the April to May period of the current fiscal.
In dollar terms the exports stood at $222.69 million during the April to May period of the current fiscal. This represents a 5.06% fall as compared to the same period of the previous fiscal

Export of frozen shrimp registered a 13.4% fall in quantity terms and 8.23% fall in value terms. In dollar terms the fall stood at 3.12 %. Frozen shrimp account for 23.15% of the total quantity of exports and 51 % of the total value of exports.
Export of frozen fish fell by 2.28% in quantity terms during the period. In value terms the export of frozen fish registered a 4.34% decline. The product accounts for 33.71% of the total quantity of exports and 14.05% of the total value of exports.
The export of frozen cuttle fish fell by 9.92% in quantity terms while in value terms it increased by 22.39%. The share of the item in total quantity of exports stood at 7% and in total value it was 8.71%.
The biggest drop was in the export of frozen squid, the export of which fell by 44.61% in quantity terms and 46.43% in value terms. Frozen squid accounts for 10.49% in the total quantity of exports.
