SAP ruling to end up in apex court

A day after the Allahabad High Court ruling on State Advisory Price (SAP) fixed by the UP government, the state on Thursday.

LUCKNOW: A day after the Allahabad High Court ruling on State Advisory Price (SAP) fixed by the UP government, the state on Thursday, said that it will challenge the order through an SLP (Special Leave Petition) before the Supreme Court.

Cabinet secretary Shashank Shekhar Singh said that the SAP of Rs 125 per quintal was in farmers’ interest. He said a meeting of mill owners was convened on Thursday where it was agreed to clear the 2006-07 dues by month-end.

Government officials stressed upon the mill owners to clear their dues at Rs 125 SAP, as 90% of the farmers had been paid at the rate of Rs 125 and the remaining should also be paid at the same rates.

The high court, in its order on Wednesday, had said that the government rework the SAP for sugarcane and suggested that a committee which has all the stakeholders be formed, to arrive at a fresh SAP.
