Rice basmati trades up on increased buying

Marketmen said increased buying by stockists and retailers mainly led to rise in wholesale rice basmati prices.

NEW DELHI: Rice basmati prices firmed up by Rs 100 per quintal on the wholesale grains market on Thursday on fresh buying by stockists and retailers to meet an improvement in demand.

However, wheat remained weak on increased supplies against reduced offtake.

Marketmen said increased buying by stockists and retailers mainly led to rise in wholesale rice basmati prices.

Increased supplies against reduced offtake by flour mills kept pressure on wheat prices.

In the national capital, rice basmati common and Pusa-1121 variety moved up by Rs 100 each to Rs 7,500-7,600 and Rs 6,900-7,600 per quintal, respectively.

On the other hand, wheat dara (for mills) shed another Rs 5 to Rs 1,580-1,585 per quintal. Atta chakki delivery also traded lower by similar margin to Rs 1,585-1,590 per 90 kg.
