Rajasthan to provide subsidised wheat flour at dairy booths

Rajasthan government has decided to provide fortified wheat flour and subsidised pulses to around 50 lakh ration cardholders through dairy booths and cooperative consumer shops.

JAIPUR: Rajasthan government has decided to provide fortified wheat flour and subsidised pulses to around 50 lakh ration cardholders through dairy booths and cooperative consumer shops. Remaining one crore ration cardholders would be covered in the second phase of the scheme.

Department of Food & Supply additional commissioner O P Yadav told ET that the state government proposes to sell fortified wheat flour to Above Poverty Line (APL) families at Rs 9 per kg which is Rs 6 less than the market rate and chana dal at Rs 28 ��� Rs 4 less than the market price. Each family would get 10 kg flour and 4 kg chana pulse a month.

The distribution would start from October 2, 2009 at the 950 identified dairy booths and cooperative stores across all the 7 district headquarters,��� he said. The state government would be utilizing the wheat earmarked for APL families for this scheme. ���We distribute 10 kg wheat to APL families at Rs 6.80 per kg which is left over in large quantity due to limited offtake.

We have roped in 15 roller mills, which will package the wheat flour in 5 and 10 kg packing. We expect that this move will provide some relief to people,��� he said. Apart from that the state government provides 35 kg wheat per month each to BPL families at Rs 4.60 per kg and 35 kg wheat per month at Rs 2 under Antodyay Scheme. Under Annapurna scheme, the government provides free wheat to underpriviledged families.
