Prices of select spices rise on short supply

Prices of spices firmed up in the wholesale kirana market on Saturday on tight stock positions following restricted supplies from producing centres.

NEW DELHI: Prices of spices such as Cardamom and clove firmed up in the wholesale kirana market on Saturday on tight stock positions following restricted supplies from producing centres.

Traders said restricted arrivals from producing centres amidst increased demand from local parties and stockists mainly helped the prices to improve.

Cardamom bold and extra bold prices improved by Rs 10 each to settled at Rs 415-425 and Rs 460-485 per kilo on short supply.

Cloves, mace-red and netmeg prices also traded higher at RS 240-265, Rs 445-450 and Rs 250-260 against last close of Rs 220-240, Rs 430-435 and Rs 245-255 per kilo respectively.

Following were today's quotations (in Rs per quintal): Ajwain 5,800-9,000, Black pepper common 14,700-14,800, Betelnut (kg) 95-100, cardamom brown (Jhundiwali) 13,500-13,600 and cardamom brown (Kanchicut) 15,500-19,000.

Cardamom small (kg): Chitridar 340-415, cardamom (colour robin) 390-400, cardamom bold 415-425, cardamom extra (bold) 460-480 and cloves (kg) 240-265.
