NEW DELHI: Prices of majority of essential commodities like wheat, sugar and gram dal have remained steady over the week ending November 5, the department of consumer affairs said on Wednesday.

At Delhi, prices of gram dal, groundnut oil and milk remained unchanged for a week. As far as rice, wheat, mustard, oil, vanaspati and potato are concerned, they were firmed for one month while the prices of atta was steady-going for over one year, the official release said. Prices of some of the essential commodities have fluctuated at different centres across the country.

Wheat has been steady at all centres and sugar prices went up marginally in Lucknow. Gram dal prices surged in Chennai, Bangalore and Lucknow. In case of tur dal, prices came down in Delhi but increased at Lucknow, Kolkata and Bangalore centres, it added.

Meanwhile, the export of oilmeals has declined by 14% to 1,698,000 tonne from 1,966,100 in April-October 2007 as compared to the last year.

In the October month alone, it has slumped 22% to 259,700 tonne from 332,625 tonne, said the report released by the Solvent Extractors’ Association of India.

The export of soyabean meal has fallen to 944,425 tonne from 1,195,475 tonne, groundnut meal has come down to 12,275 from 48,100 tonne and rapeseed has slipped to 457,600 tonne from 525,075 tonne, said the report.
