NEW DELHI: Snapping its three-day falling trend, potato prices surged by 1.75 per cent to Rs 920 per quintal in futures trading today as speculators enlarged their positions on strong demand in the spot market.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, potato for delivery in far-month April shot up by Rs 15.80, or 1.75 per cent, to Rs 920 per quintal in a business turnover of 56 lots.

Potato for delivery in March also gained Rs 15.40, or 1.68 per cent, to Rs 933.60 per quintal in 172 lots.

Analysts said speculators enlarged their positions driven by strong demand in the spot market supported by ongoing marriage season that led to an upsurge in potato prices at futures trade.
