Potato futures up on tight supply, firm spot demand

Potato prices went up by 1.45 per cent to Rs 771 per quintal in futures trade supported by pick-up in demand in the spot markets.

NEW DELHI: Potato prices went up by 1.45 per cent to Rs 771 per quintal in futures trade today mostly supported by pick-up in demand in the spot markets against tight supplies from producing belts.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, potato for delivery in April gained Rs 11, or 1.45 per cent, to Rs 771 per quintal in business turnover of 103 lots.

Likewise, the potato for delivery in March edged up by Rs 4, or 0.50 per cent, to Rs 809 per quintal in seven lots.

Market analysts said rising demand against restricted supplies from producing regions in the spot markets, mainly influenced potato prices at futures trade.
