Potato futures rise on strong demand, tight supply

Potato prices rose by Rs 5.50 to Rs 932.90 per quintal in futures trading today as traders enlarged their positions.

NEW DELHI: Potato prices rose by Rs 5.50 to Rs 932.90 per quintal in futures trading today as traders enlarged their positions, triggered by a firm trend at spot market on strong demand.

Further, tight supplies from producing belts also supported the upside.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, potato for delivery in July month rose by Rs 5.50, or 0.59 per cent, to Rs 932.90 per quintal in business turnover of 16 lots.

The potato for delivery in the June contract also moved up by Rs 2, or 0.21 per cent, to Rs 953 per quintal in 21 lots.

Market experts said the rise in potato prices at futures trade was attributed to the strong spot demand supported by ongoing marriage season amid restricted arrivals from producing belts.
