Potato futures rise for third-day on strong demand

Potato prices rose by Rs 2.70, to Rs 1,033 per quintal, extending rising streak for the third day in futures trade today.

NEW DELHI: Potato prices rose by Rs 2.70, to Rs 1,033 per quintal, extending rising streak for the third day in futures trade today, mostly supported by rising demand, following beginning of 'Navratras' festival.

Restricted arrivals from producing regions further fuelled the uptrend.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, potato for delivery in June gained Rs 2.70, or 0.26 per cent to Rs 1,033 per quintal in business turnover of 29 lots.

In a similar fashion, potato for delivery in May edged up by Rs 1.10, or 0.11 per cent to Rs 1028.10 per quintal in 25 lots.

Analysts said traders enlarged their positions on the back of strong demand following beginning of 'Navratras' festival, mainly kept potato futures firm.
