Potato futures climb 1.99 per cent on upsurge in demand
NEW DELHI: Potato prices surged 1.99 per cent to Rs 1,438 per quintal in futures trading today as speculators created fresh positions on the back of rising demand in the spot markets.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, potato for delivery in May was up by Rs 28, or 1.99 per cent, to Rs 1,438 per quintal in a business turnover of 363 lots.

Likewise, the potato for delivery in April traded higher by Rs 1,420, or 1.09 per cent, to Rs 1,318 per quintal in 43 lots.

Analysts said fresh positions created by speculators following an upsurge in demand in the spot market against decline in arrivals from producing regions mainly pushed up potato prices at futures trade.
