Potato prices surged 1.49 per cent to Rs 1,201.40 per quintal in futures market today as speculators indulged in creating positions at futures trade.

NEW DELHI: Supported by rising demand, potato prices surged 1.49 per cent to Rs 1,201.40 per quintal in futures market today as speculators indulged in creating positions at futures trade.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, potato for delivery in March shot up by Rs 17.60, or 1.49 per cent to Rs 1,201.40 per quintal in business turnover of 60 lots.

Likewise, the potato for delivery in April traded higher by Rs 5.60, or 0.47 per cent to Rs 1,205.50 per quintal in 73 lots.

Market analysts said besides rising demand in the spot markets, tight arrivals from producing belts, helped potato prices to rise at futures trade here.
