Pepper prices slip on talk of price cut

Pepper futures fell on Wednesday on talk of price cuts in major producing countries and low export demand, analysts said.

MUMBAI: Pepper futures fell on Wednesday on talk of price cuts in major producing countries and low export demand, analysts said.

Traders in Vietnam and Indonesia have cut prices by $100-$150 per tonne, said Alimuhammed Lakdawala, an analyst with Anand Rathi Commodities.

Vietnam is the worlds largest pepper producer and exporter and low prices may affect Indias export prospects.

Demand in the physical market has come down to about 100 tonnes from about 120 tonnes last week, said K Varghese, a Kochi-based trader. Spot pepper was trading at Rs 15,375 per 100 kg in Kochi.
