PEC invites bids to import 24,000 tons of soyabean oil

PEC has invited bids for import of 24,000 tons of crude degummed soyabean oil for supplying edible oil under public distribution system (PDS)

NEW DELHI: For supplying edible oil under public distribution system (PDS), state-run trading company PEC has invited bids for import of 24,000 tons of crude degummed soyabean oil.

The bids would close on July 7 and the decision on the tender would be taken on the same day, the company stated on its website.

With this bid, state-run trading agencies MMTC, STC, PEC and co-operative major NAFED have so far contracted 2.03 lakh tons of edible oils, sources said.

The government has asked these agencies to import one million tonnes of edible oils to meet requirement of PDS.

According to the tender, PEC would source crude degummed soyabean oil from Argentina and Brazil, and it would be delivered during July-August period.

The bidders should quote for 12,000 tons each to be delivered at East Port and West Port respectively, it said.

The centre plans to supply one litre of cooking oil to each family under below poverty line and Antyodaya Anna Yojana scheme of the PDS, bearing a subsidy of Rs 15 per litre.
