Pakistan tea imports from India up 25 per cent at 30 million kg

Pakistan, one of the world's largest black tea market, has imported nearly 30 mn kg of tea, which is nearly a 25% jump over 2011.

GOA: The Indian tea industry has much to cheer. Pakistan, one of the largest black tea market in the world, has imported nearly 30 million kg of tea, which is nearly a 25% jump compared to 2011, reports our bureau.
Pakistan had over the years bought teas from south India. But breaking away from this tradition, the country has started lifting medium quality CTC tea from Assam.

Pakistan has bought these teas at a price of $2 - $2.5 (Rs 110-140 ) per kg. Incidentally Assam produces about 70% of India’s total tea output of 980 million kg.
