Oilmeal exports rise 22% in Q1

Oilmeal exports in the month of June ‘06 have witnessed a marginal rise compared to those a year ago.


MUMBAI: Oilmeal exports in the month of June ‘06 have witnessed a marginal rise compared to those a year ago.

According to data from the Solvent Extractors’ Association of India (SEA), exports during June were to the tune of 219,650 tonnes, 3.8% higher than 211,625 tonnes reported in June ‘05.

However, total export of oilmeal in the first quarter (Apr-June) of the current fiscal was 875,200 tonnes, 22% higher than 718,275 tonnes recorded in the year-earlier period.

The jump was due to higher exports of soyabean meal from 371,100 tonnes to 565,975 tonnes in the first quarter of FY07. Out of this, 170,550 tonnes were exported to Vietnam, 86,925 tonnes to Indonesia, 81,775 tonnes to Japan, 78,225 tonnes to China and 72,750 tonnes were exported to South Korea.

Rapeseed meal exports during the same quarter stood at 210,725 tonnes, shipped mainly to South Korea (85,525 tonnes), China (55,425 tonnes) and Taiwan (31,250 tonnes). Groundnut meal exports of 43,100 tonnes were shipped mainly to China, while Taiwan was the main buyer of castormeal.
