Sugar futures gain 1.16 per cent on rising demand
NEW DELHI: Sugar prices moved up by 1.16 per cent to Rs 3,665 per quintal in futures trading today as speculators enlarged their bets, tracking a firm trend at spot market on rising demand.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, sugar for delivery in October shot up by Rs 42, or 1.16 per cent to Rs 3,665 per quintal with an open interest of 13,320 lots.

Similarly, the sweetener for delivery in far-month December traded higher by Rs 17, or 0.46 per cent to Rs 3,741 per quintal in 14,650 lots.

Analysts said increasing of positions by traders on tbe back of firm demand from bulk consumers as well as retailers in the spot market, mainly pushed up the sugar prices at futures trade.
